Medical

IMEG’s group medical insurance covers hospitalization, medical and prescription expenses of an employee and their family, check it out at bcbsil.com or kp.org.

At IMEG, you have the choice of choosing between three plans — a traditional PPO plan and a high deductible HSA plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, or an HMO plan through Kaiser Permanente (click on the benefits guide button for cost and details).

Traditional (PPO) Plan

The individual deductible is $1,000, while the family deductible is $3,000. Once the deductible is met, the member pays 20% coinsurance until they hit the out-of-pocket maximum. The individual out-of-pocket maximum is $4,000, while the family has a 3 times cap. Once you reach the out-of-pocket maximum, the plan pays 100% of the costs of services. Under the traditional PPO plan, preventive care is paid in full. A physician office visit is subject to a $30 copay and pharmacy charges have various copayments depending on the type of drug that you select. This plan taps into the Blue Cross nationwide network of providers — the largest provider network in the nation.

High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)

As the name implies, the deductible is higher than the traditional plan. However, preventive services are payed in full. Everything else under the high deductible plan, is subject to the deductible, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximum. This is different from the traditional plan because in the high deductible plan copays do not apply. All charges first go toward meeting that deductible. Although that deductible is higher, as you’ll notice in your benefits guide, this plan’s premium is less. If you enroll in the high deductible heath plan, you have the option of opening up a health savings account (HSA). Check out more information in the HSA tab.

HMO Plan — Kaiser Permanente (California)

The HMO plan is through Kaiser Permanente. In 2024, this plan will have a $750 individual and $1,500 family deductible. Copays apply to the various types of services that you have. The key tradeoff on an HMO is that typically you have lower out-of-pocket expenses when you incur services; however, you must be comfortable that the provider count is more limited. For example, if you happen to travel a lot this may not be the plan for you.

MDLIVE

Getting sick after hours or on weekends used to mean a lengthy, costly trip to the emergency room or urgent care center. With MDLIVE, you can see a board-certified doctor 24/7/365 — and you don’t have to leave the comfort and convenience of your own home! MDLIVE allows you to consult a doctor for non-emergency situations by phone, mobile app, or online video, anywhere! If necessary, prescriptions can be sent to your local pharmacy.

You can use MDLIVE:

  • Instead of going to the ER or an urgent care center for a non-emergent issue.
  • During or after normal business hours, nights, weekends and even holidays.
  • If your primary care doctor is not available.
  • If you are traveling and in need of medical care.
  • The amount you pay to use MDLIVE is considerably lower than the average cost of an in-person doctor visit.
